Alexander Janiczek was born into a Salzburg musical family of Polish-Czech descent and began violin lessons at the age of ten with Helmuth Zehetmair at the Mozarteum Academy in Salzburg. He also took master classes with Max Rostal, Nathan Milstein, Ruggiero Ricci, Dorothy DeLay and the cellist Harvey Shapiro in New York.<\/p>\n
He first gained international attention when violinist and orchestral musician S\u00e1ndor V\u00e9gh - who had a great influence on him and became his mentor - appointed him concertmaster of the Camerata Salzburg. Under V\u00e9gh's direction, Janiczek also performed regularly as a soloist, including Beethoven's violin concerto at the Salzburg Festival. Alexander Janiczek has always been fascinated by the long violin tradition that convincingly combines the musical roles of soloist, concertmaster and chamber musician.<\/p>\n
After this formative period, Janiczek performed as musical director with numerous renowned European chamber orchestras. He was fortunate to play with soloists such as Leonidas Kavakos, Martha Argerich, Murray Perahia, Maria Jo\u00e3o Pires, Andr\u00e1s Schiff, Mikl\u00f3s Per\u00e9nyi and Nicolai Gedda.<\/p>\n
With the Chamber Orchestra of Europe, he undertook extensive concert tours of Europe and the Far East, developing close musical collaborations with Mitsuko Uchida and others. Recordings such as Stravinsky's Pulcinella Suite<\/em> and Apollon Musag\u00e8te<\/em> testify to this cooperation.<\/p>\n The Scottish Chamber Orchestra appointed Janiczek an Associate Artist in 2011. With this orchestra he performed as soloist under the baton of Robin Ticciati, realized numerous projects as first concertmaster with pianist Piotr Anderszewski and recorded acclaimed recordings of works by W.A. Mozart and Carl Maria von Weber as musical director. Other recordings in which Alexander Janiczek was involved as concertmaster include Beethoven's symphonies (live with La Chambre Philharmonique and Emmanuel Krivine), Mahler's Eighth Symphony with the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra under Sir Simon Rattle, projects with Sir Colin Davis and the London Symphony Orchestra during the 2003 Berlioz year, and most recently Beethoven's Missa Solemnis<\/em> with the Orchestra of the Eighteenth Century.<\/p>\n Due to his presence as concertmaster with leading chamber orchestras, Janiczek is regularly invited as guest concertmaster. He has been a guest of the Concertgebouw Orchestra Amsterdam, the Budapest Festival Orchestra, the Philharmonia Orchestra in London, the Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester Berlin, the SWR Stuttgart and the Munich State Opera Orchestra, among others.<\/p>\n Through the formative musical training of S\u00e1ndor V\u00e9gh, which was strongly rooted in the spirit of the late 19th century, Janiczek began to delve deeply into Romantic performance practice some time ago. He worked closely with Sir Roger Norrington, Robert Levin and Philippe Herreweghe.<\/p>\n Today, Janiczek is concertmaster of the Dresdner Festspielorchester, playing romantic instruments. In addition to invitations as guest concertmaster with the Orchestre des Champs-\u00c9lys\u00e9es, he works regularly with the Orchestra of the Eighteenth Century in Amsterdam.<\/p>\n An in-demand chamber musician, Janiczek was invited to the Marlboro Music Festival, was a regular performer at IMS Open Chamber Music in Prussia Cove, England, and played with musicians such as Thomas Ad\u00e8s, J\u00f6rg Widmann, Joshua Bell, Steven Isserlis and Andr\u00e1s Schiff.<\/p>\n Alexander Janiczek is musical director of the youth program at the East Neuk Festival in Scotland and taught violin at the Guildhall School of Music in London.<\/p>\n He plays a violin by Giuseppe Guarneri del Ges\u00f9, Cremona 1731, \"ex Sorkin,\" provided to him by the Austrian National Bank.<\/p>","protected":false},"featured_media":9327,"template":"","meta":{"_acf_changed":false},"discipline":[223,224,225],"class_list":["post-9325","artistic-partner","type-artistic-partner","status-publish","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","discipline-concertmeester","discipline-solist","discipline-musical-direction"],"acf":[],"yoast_head":"\n
