Jonas Krebs is a Swiss violinist who joined the Orkest van de 18e Eeuw in 2025. He has a particular interest in performing classical and Romantic repertoire on gut strings. He performs regularly with leading ensembles in the early music scene.
After studying in Switzerland with Meret Lüthi, Monika Urbaniak and Corina Belcea, Jonas moved to Amsterdam, where he specialised in playing the violin and viola with gut strings at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam under the guidance of Antoinette Lohmann, Emmanuel Resche-Caserta, Shunske Sato and Sayuri Yamagata. He works as a freelance musician in Switzerland, the Netherlands, and other European countries. He currently divides his time between Basel and Haarlem (NL).
Jonas has a keen interest in playing chamber music, from violin and guitar duos with his brother Tobias Krebs to string quartets, sextets and chamber orchestras. He combines historical research with expressive performance, aiming to breathe life into early and modern repertoire. He plays a baroque violin made by Pieter Rombouts around 1715.
